Faroe Islands

My dears, I'm dying to explore the Faroe {Føroyar} Islands.  Who's with me??
The Danish translation for the name of these islandsFærøerne, literally translates to Sheep Islands.  So quaint!
If these images are anything true to life, then a vacation here would be an absolute feast for the senses.

If you haven't noticed yet, I'm generally preoccupied {ahem, OBSESSED} with all things Scandinavian, and while I've had the chance to travel within Sweden and Finland, it would be my dream to embark on an ultimate Scandinavian tour.
This place in particular I've been dreaming about for quite some time now.  Colorful houses, riveting coastlines and storybook hillsides dotted with sheep.  Swoon!

I can only imagine the adventures to be had here.
Ferrying in from nearby Iceland or Denmark, being immersed in the local Faroese culture, hiking through green pastures and along jaw-dropping crags and cliffs, *picnics everywhere, cozy nights spent tasting Faroese cuisine in cafés and restaurants {wine too please}, maybe even take in a musical festival.  Bliss.

The average temperature, even in summer is 12°C, so warm jackets and maybe a dreamy man who offers you his toasty hands and a comfy embrace are just the thing to take on this vacation.

Wouldn't it be the most romantic honeymoon spot?

Where are you dreaming about going right now, my darlings?

  1. The Faroe Islands look completely dreamy! Love! I'm currently dreaming of all things European because...I've never been! My top few spots right now are Marseille (my mother's birthplace), Paris (because it's fabulous), Zurich (because I've always wanted to go there, probably due to Matt Damon in Bourne Identity), Vienna (because I want to be surrounded by stone buildings and fountains), Istanbul (because who doesn't want to visit a gleaming city were all things modern and historic collide?) *sigh* I could go on forever about all the spots I want to visit. Bottom line: must go at some point.

    1. The same rubbish about Scandinavia being only Denmark, Finland and Sweden? Faroe Islands and Iceland are consider as part of Scandinavia in extenso, due to the life, language, culture similarities and not necessaey due to their placement.

    2. The Faroe Islands are located within the Arctic Circle, but are also considered to be a part of Scandinavia, because they belong to the kingdom of Denmark, which is one of the monarchies in Scandinavia. Still, they are the Faroe Islands! ;)

    3. Thanks Kaninusferoingus and Anon, that is exactly what we were suggesting. We realize that the Faroe Islands are separate from Scandinavia and in many ways distinct from Denmark. We only meant to show the similarities between the Faroe Islands and other parts of Scandinavia. :)

I am in love with these islands. Came here first time 12 years ago and fell irremediably for them. Hope you'll get your chance one day, it is more than worth visiting.
