Sweet slumber

Not going to lie,
All I can seem to think about these days is my bed.
Or more specifically sleep.

I know, I know, everyone likes sleep,
maybe even loves it.

But I've never been one of those people.
I always saw it as something necessary, pleasant, and slightly indulgent.

But now....

I'm consumed by it.

Ok, so it doesn't help that I may have Mono...
*Gasp*

No I haven't been locking lips with any contagious folk of late...
So I have no idea how this has come to be.

But,
It's a possibility.
And it definitely explains my fatigue and sleep obsession.

Rachel definitely thinks there is something wrong with me...
Most nights I'm passed out by 9:30pm.
So not my style.

Granny alert!

Well, anyway...
Since I can't seem to think of anything else,
let me pass along a few delicious images.

So happy to know that a Saturday morning slumber-sesh is just around the corner!

Happy Friday Lovelies!!!

P.S. Don't forget to set your clocks forward an hour on Saturday night.
This weekend is SPRING FORWARD.
Yay for an hour more of daylight!!!!!

Butt Naked

Mhmm.  Let's talk nudity.

I'm not just talking about getting naked when you're alone about to hop into the shower, or when you're dancing around an empty home in nothing but socks.

Nope. I'm talking about naked saunas {SOW-NA}.
Being raised by a Finnish mama, saunas were a regular part of life.  Myself and each of my sisters had our first saunas just weeks after being born.  From then on, whenever we visited my Finnish grandmother's house, we more than likely ended up in the sauna.

The part that seems to make absolutely everbody giggle, squirm or exclaim, is the part where we tell them that we all sauna together, all us womenfolk at least. :)

Yup, ever since we were wee babes, my sisters and I have sat naked in the sauna with my grandmother, mother, aunts, and cousins.  That's a lot of nudity.

But it's also just the way it has always been.  Part of sauna culture, Finnish culture.
Practical, direct, and shameless.

And ironically enough, despite the intensely reserved and quiet reputation Finns have, saunas have always been and continue to be social spaces.  It is here, where reservations or hestitations are put aside.  The heat is too thick and the steam too encompassing for self-consciousness.

My mama and I stumbled across this documentary, Steam of Life {Miesten Vuoro}, a while ago now.
This masterpiece explains the significance of the sauna far better than I ever could, have a look. :)

Would you get naked for a sauna???

I promise, it is bliss.

The Dentist, Friend or Foe?

I have an irrational fear of the dentist's office. My hands go clammy,  I develop a nervous tickle in my throat,  and my eyes dart about the room like I'm a mouse about to be pounced on by a big ol' cat. I've even been known to ask a friend, sister, or boyfriend along, just to quell the fear. Lame, I know!

So at the ripe old age of 28, I've decided enough is enough. 2013 will be the year to end all this nonsense. After delaying the inevitable, I finally booked an appointment for last Friday. As I sat in the office anxiously awaiting my turn in the chair, I began to wonder if I could possibly slip out the door without the slightest notice. Hmmm... not likely.
Soon, too soon in fact, my name was called and in I went. And you know what?

Everything was fine. Better than fine actually. The dentist was kind, and his amiable bed-side manner was a nice departure from what I had previously experienced in the dentist's chair. The hour I was in there went by  quite quickly {to my astonishment} and soon I was out and into the daylight. With a new toothbrush to boot!

All this to say, sometimes you can indeed concur your fears. Even if it takes you 28 years to do it!

So my dears, what fears are you hoping to squash in 2013?

I think heights might be next for me!

P.S. How scrumptious are these little girls?!
